Meta Ad Case Study: How I Got 30 Local Leads with a N12,000 Budget

Running a Facebook ad for a local shop can be a tough challenge. Many business owners try to use the simple “Boost Post” button on their phones, but this often wastes money without bringing in real customers.

For my recent ad campaign for DB Glam & Cutz Concept, a new premium salon in Port Harcourt, I used a smart method to reach these neighbors. By spending a small budget of just ₦12,000 over four days, I avoided expensive tools and brought in 30 real customer conversations.

Smart Meta Ads Lead Generation

When agencies talk about meta ads lead generation, they often tell you to buy expensive software or create complicated landing pages.

But that can be difficult for a new small business on a tight budget. In this meta ad case study, DB Glam & Cutz Concept was a very new brand with brand-new meta accounts and no website.

As a result, I kept things simple and ran the entire campaign directly inside the professional dashboard.

A major secret to this project was how I set up the messaging feature. Instead of using complex forms that confuse people, I used a single text screen that popped up right when someone clicked the ad.

How to Run Facebook Ads for Clients in a Local Area

Learning how to run Facebook ads for clients who own local shops requires a totally different strategy than running ads for online stores.

If you target an entire city or stack too many “interest” keywords into the setting boxes, your audience becomes way too small, and your costs will skyrocket.

For this salon, I used a strategy called Open Targeting. I chose a tight map pin directly over the Elelenwo area with a small 5-to-7-mile radius and set the age range between 22 and 55.

Then, I left the interest boxes completely blank. By removing all interest tags, I let the algorithm look strictly at the local neighborhood circle and our chosen age bracket. The system naturally found the right neighbors because our video and ad text clearly showed it was a salon ad.

The Big Results on Facebook Reels and Mobile Feeds

When the five days were over, I checked the final numbers, and the data taught me a major lesson.

Facebook completely crushed it for this campaign. Out of the 30 total conversations we got, 28 of them came directly from Facebook platforms.

Facebook Reels was the absolute king of the campaign, bringing in 17 conversations at an incredible price of just ₦350.35 each.

This shows that short-form videos on Reels can be the most explosive way to get cheap leads for local businesses in Port Harcourt.

Meanwhile, the regular Facebook mobile feed was our reliable engine, bringing in 11 conversations at ₦412.95 each. People scrolling through their normal feeds are usually relaxed and very ready to click on a local business ad.

The Hidden Instagram Plot Twist

Meta ad case study

If you only look at the surface numbers, Instagram looked like a failure because it only brought in one conversation.

But looking closer at the technical data reveals a massive plot twist. The ad was only shown to 32 people on Instagram. Yet, out of those few people, the click-through rate was an astronomical 2.27%.

For comparison, Facebook Reels only had a 0.27% rate. This means Instagram users clicked our ad at a rate nearly ten times higher than Facebook users, creating a super-cheap conversation cost of just ₦105.46.

I believe Instagram did not get more leads simply because the system is designed to chase fast volume. Because Facebook has a much bigger pool of active users at any given second, it got a few quick clicks early on.

The automated system reacted by dumping 95% of our budget into Facebook, starving the Instagram audience of a fair chance.

How to Boost ROAS on Meta Ads 2026 Best Practices

This campaign gives us a playbook for how to boost ROAS on Meta Ads 2026, best practices for local businesses.

ROAS simply means Return on Ad Spend, or how much profit you make back from the money you invest.

The lesson here is that Facebook can be your volume driver for mass reach, but Instagram is an untapped goldmine for high-quality clicks.

For our next campaign, I intend to stop letting the algorithm mix the placements automatically. Instead, we’ll consider splitting the budget into two separate ad sets.

One will be locked strictly onto Facebook placements to secure the local volume, and the other will be forced strictly onto Instagram placements with its own protected budget.

This, I believe, will stop the system from starving Instagram and allow a local business owner to harvest the absolute cheapest leads on both apps.
